Bridal Hair Timeline: When to Book Your Colour, Extensions & Hair Trial

Planning a wedding involves countless decisions, and your hair is one detail you don’t want to leave until the last minute. Whether you’re dreaming of soft waves, an elegant updo or added volume with extensions, a little forward planning can make all the difference.

To help you feel relaxed and confident ahead of your big day, we’ve put together a simple bridal hair timeline.

6-12 months before the wedding

If you’re considering hair extensions, now is the perfect time to book a consultation. Extensions can completely transform your bridal look by adding length, thickness or both, but choosing the right method and colour match takes time.

This is also a good opportunity to discuss any long-term hair goals. If you’re thinking about growing your hair, changing your colour significantly or improving the condition of your hair before the wedding, starting early gives you the best results.

3-6 months before the wedding

By this stage, your dress, venue and overall wedding style are usually coming together. This is the ideal time to begin planning your bridal hairstyle.

Bring inspiration photos to your consultation and think about how you normally wear your hair. A beautiful bridal style should still feel like you.

If you’re planning a colour refresh, balayage or highlights before the wedding, now is the time to discuss a schedule with your stylist. This allows any adjustments to be made well before the big day.

8-12 Weeks Before the Wedding

Book your bridal hair trial.

Your trial is where everything starts to come together. We’ll create your chosen style, discuss any tweaks and make sure it complements your dress, accessories and overall look.

If you’re having extensions fitted for your wedding, they should be in place before your trial so we can style your hair exactly as it will look on the day.

2-4 Weeks Before the Wedding

This is usually the best time for your final colour appointment.

Whether it’s a root touch-up, toner, glossing treatment or balayage refresh, having your colour completed a few weeks before the wedding allows it to settle naturally while still looking fresh and vibrant.

A conditioning treatment can also help boost shine and improve the overall health of your hair ahead of the celebrations.

The Week of the Wedding

Avoid making any major changes to your cut or colour during the final week. This isn’t the time to experiment with a new fringe or dramatic colour transformation.

Instead, focus on keeping your hair healthy and hydrated. Follow any aftercare advice from your stylist and avoid excessive heat styling where possible.
